As Lopez explains in his IMDb biography, he played football at Shippensburg University but left after his freshman year due to 9/11 and felt compelled to join the United States Army. While in the Army, he was on the Army Boxing Team in Dexheim, Germany and was later stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. He became a Sergeant and served two tours in Iraq under the command of the 4th Infantry Division. Upon returning from Iraq, he enrolled at St. Edward's University to pursue a communication degree. While in Austin, he was finally able to pursue his dream of acting.
