Dr. Teri Varner, Assistant Professor of Communication moderated a panel entitled, “The Colors of Black,” hosted by the Multicultural Leadership Board. The event took place on Thursday, February 13 @ 7:30 - 9:30 P.M. The event was part of the Black History month celebration and it focused on issues of colorism. There were also slam poets who used expressive performance prose to communicate different point of views on colorism. After which, the audience reviewed clips from Director/Producer, Nina Womack’s documentary, “The Blue Vein Society – Light Skin VS. Dark Skin Issues (2011) and had a lively follow up discussion. The entire event was organized by Communication Major Christine Mafana ‘16, Black Heritage Events Coordinator for the Multicultural Leadership Board at St. Edward's University. Approximately 55 students attended the event in the Mabee Ballroom C.
