As part of their final project, students in Visual Communication (COMM 2305) designed and created a compact disc cover for the band Scheherazade Knights. The project required students to use Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator to produce an appealing album cover for the fictional band's debut album. The class was taught by Shannan Butler, associate professor of Communication, who described the project as "intentionally stretching the bounds of student's visual creativity and technical abilities--they were given quotes from various sources suggesting the bands eclectic sound and mysterious nature which allowed them to approach the project from many possible visual perspectives." Shown here are just a few of the many student mockups for the project.
Megan Ura, a Communication graduate ('07) and current Computer Training Coordinator at St. Edward's University, was named one of EdTech Magazine's 50 must-read higher education technology bloggers yesterday. Themagazine published a Dean's List of 50 Must-Read Higher Education Technology Blogs to recognize "thought leaders pushing technology further." Megan's blog features tech insights from a recent college grad working in higher education.
Megan took the very first social media class offered by the SEU Communication Department back in 2007 and coincidentally offered to train the Communication faculty on how to post to this blog! Congratulations from the entire Communication Department!
Students in Advertising Campaigns (COMM 4334) presented their portfolios to advertising creative professionals from TKO Advertising, GSD&M/Idea City, and Tocquigny at the end of this semester. The portfolio review, organized by Adjunct Professor Raul Garza, owner of TKO Advertising, is the culmination of a semester of work designing strategic and creative advertising for print, broadcast, and the web. The copywriters and art directors critiqued the portfolios and offered suggestions on how to further build the students’ “books” to take on internship and job interviews.

Brittany received the prestigious Presidential Award, an award given each year to qualified outstanding seniors and graduate students who have embodied the principles of the Holy Cross tradition and the mission of the University and have demonstrated excellence in leadership, academic performance and service to the university and other communities.
Brittany, who played on the university basketball team during her time at St. Edward's, will be leaving the Hilltop to move to Darwin, Australia, where she has signed a contract to play professional basketball. The Communication Department wishes her safe travels and good luck as she settles into her new life Down Under!
