On August 12th, Dr. Corinne Weisgerber engaged in an international collaboration by joining a colleague at the University of Cologne in Germany in hosting #EdChatDe, a weekly Twitter chat on education. #EdChatDe is the German version of the popular #EdChat, a weekly Twitter conversation that any educator can join to discuss and learn about current teaching trends, how to integrate technology, transform their teaching, and connect with inspiring educators worldwide.
The August 12th chat marked the first time #EdChatDe was hosted on two continents simultaneously. Dr. Weisgerber who speaks German as her first foreign language, moderated the chat in German and simultaneously translated chat questions into English.
The chat drew educators at the K-12 and higher education level from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the UK, Denmark, Sweden and the U.S. (a map of all the participants can be viewed here).
A full transcript of the chat is available on the EdChatDe website.
Anais Cruz, a junior majoring in Communication with a specialization in Public Relations and Advertising, shares her experience as a Community Engagement Intern for the City of Austin.
Anais found the position by attending a job/internship fair last spring at St. Edward's University. Throughout her internship, she planned and organized a major community project, managed a weekly blog post, and strengthened her Spanish by translating and writing. One exciting assignment she was able to work on was a news script that aired on Univision 62.
Each week, Anais wrote a minute-long news script in Spanish that advertised Citywide family events. Her supervisor, Marion Sanchez went on air each week using the news script Anais wrote. Anais was lucky enough to tag along with Marion to the Univision 62 news station to see her work in action.
"I was able to see what a news room looked like and how it all operated. My favorite part was being able to see the work I've done come alive," Cruz said. "Maybe my next internship could be at Univision!"
